Two Great Truths: Nothing And All Things

One of the greatest things about serving at a Ministry like FamilyLife is the people you serve with. There is lots of encouragement going on and lots of hard work as well.
A friend and I were talking a few days back and he quoted two very familiar verses, but connected them in a way I had never thought of previously. Here are the two verses:

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Most folks who have heard the Bible taught have heard those verses. Both are great verses to know, to memorize, and to apply to our lives.

But here is what struck me: the words "do nothing" in one verse and the words "do all things" in the other. In one verse we are told that we can do NOTHING and the other we are told we can do ALL things. How can it be? Is there a "contradiction"?

The key to connecting the verses is this: Jesus Christ. When we understand that Jesus is God then we understand that we can do ALL things through Him. Through His power and His Spirit and His Word, we can help build His Kingdom.

But we must remember that the opposite is true as well: without Him we can do NOTHING -- or NO THING -- nothing of real or eternal value. We need Jesus for every moment of this life!

Don't leave home with Him! Jesus is what we need!!
