It was a powerful moment.....At the FamilyLife Weekend to Remember men's session on Sunday morning, men were asked to share ONE WORD to describe their father. There were some great ones like "loving", "supportive", and "encourager. But there were also men who voiced words like "alcoholic", "child-abuser", and "absent".
The word DAD brings both joyful and painful memories to folks depending on their life experiences. But no matter what you experience is, the Bible is clear that we must "honor our father and mother." We do not honor them BECAUSE they are worthy of honor, although many are. We honor them because we are commanded to do so by the Lord and, as His followers, we should obey His Word to us.
There are a few days left as we approach Father's Day for 2009. I encourage you to follow the link below to a great article from FamilyLife that gives a person 10 ways they can honor and appreciate their Dad.
I hope you will enjoy the article. But, more than that, I hope you will obey the Word of the Lord and take time to honor your Father this Sunday.
