Heaven - that word stirs up images in the minds of most folks. Some may not believe there is such a place, but for the Christ-follower, Heaven is a biblical reality. It is a place where we will spend eternity with God and with other followers of Christ who have gone before us.
And there are great promises about Heaven for the Christ-follower as well:
- Revelation 21:4: He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
- 1 Corinthians 2:7-9: But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,”What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”
- 2 Corinthians 5:8: Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.
Bob Lepine shared this with our staff about a week ago. As I thought about it, I thought of many things I would look forward to in Heaven. Bob named off many as well. But then, he really got us with his next statement...
"And, by the way, Jesus will be there too!"
OUCH! Of all the things I am looking forward to in Heaven, the "thing" I should be most looking forward to is Jesus - being in the presence of the Lord. It was so convicting - how often I look forward to the rewards that the Lord gives me instead of focusing in the Lord Himself!
PRAYER: Lord, please help me to keep my focus on You - the Giver of every good and perfect gift. And while I sincerely appreciate all the "rewards" You give me as a Christ-follower, may I NEVER desire the rewards more than I desire to know You more!
